Today was my first day at Central Saint Martins. In the morning, we did several sections with our class.
Task 1:
Everyone got a sheet of paper in our class, there were some questions written down on the paper, everyone need to answer the questions and talk about your answers with the person who sets next to you. Natalia was my partner, we talk about the questions but more about the personal experiences. From the talking with Natalia, I started to understand the diversity in CSM. To be honest, i am not the type of person who is really good at communicating with others, but from this task, I can challenge myself, and force myself to talk with others, as communication is an really important skill in life.
Task 2:
After talked with my partner, each of us need to stand up and introduce your partner with rest of the class. I found this task is a bit tough for me, as I am totally not good at public speaking, and I will be super nervous when i talk with lots of people. But the only way i can overcome this kind of nervous is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. So I found this task is actually really helpful to me, I am able to practice myself in this task and getting to know other people in our class by listening.
Task 3:
Idea factory
In this task, we were separated into different groups, each group has maximum 6 people, There were five of us in our group. We did the practice of doing research together, which is something different with what i did before, as we need to choose one of the artist, one of the process, and one of the material. For the artist, we got Es Devlin, paper for material and inflate for process. I found it is really hard to connect them together and have a final idea which need to be related with them. We read the introduction about the artist, who has done lots of designs for stages by using lights and space.
Her works really inspired me about the different possibilities in spaces and how we can use it to make it better, but unlike the interior design, the stage design is something we can create lots of sense, and express the specific emotion in a particular, I found i am really obsess with this kind of design, it expresses strong emotion within it, so at this point, i think I’m kind of want to try stage design in the future study.
Also, For the material paper, we did a brainstorming of it, in the beginning we can not think about any thing except the using of paper, but after the tutor came to our group, he told us the other features that paper has, and how we can use it in some different ways, such as burning them and sinking them. So, i am getting to understand for the brainstorming, there is not a limitation of it, i can write about everything about it as long as it is link with the word. But what we found is really hard, is the process one, we got the inflate, actually we were stuck at the inflate, as we can not thinking about anything with inflate except the balloons. We asked our tutor for help, and the tutor told us there are some shoes which were designed with inflate platform, which i found is really interesting, because i have never heard about it before, so at this point, i think i definitely need to read more about the art, and go to more exhibition, also do lots of researches.

Today I went to Brick Lane Market, I have heard it is famous for the vintage market, but when i went i went to there, i found there are lots of street arts as well, some of them are really creative, and some of them are so realistic. In my opinion, some of them has a deep meaning behind it, but some of them are just random stuff. But after i came back from Brick Lane, i have did some research about the Street Art in Brick Lane, and all the works are constantly changing, new work is created, new artists come to the area. From one day to the next exciting finds will always be made. Also, artists from all over the world and the UK come here to paint, safe in the knowledge that they will get an appreciative audience.
Also, In Brick Lane, What really interested me is that there are lots of artist from all over the UK come to Brick Lane and sell their works. The types of work are really diverse, there are drawings, paintings, clothing designed by the designer, also jewelries as well. Walking in Brick Lane, I got lots of chances to talk with each individual designers, they all has different backgrounds. I met one of the jewelry designer who only make jewelry by using ceramics in geometric shapes, and then polish the work in some special ways, so it has different textures on the surface. Here are two of her works below.

In the morning, we were asked to do a task on 3 sheets of paper, which should included the summary of research, idea development, final proposal and clear content visual record of your interpretation, as we are going to have a final presentation in the end of today.
I started to do my conclusion for research, but when i did not have any idea of how to do the conclusion, our tutor just came and showed us some examples of the right way of doing it, i found sharing with others is really helpful, as we can take advantages from other people also share your work let others tell you where you can develop more about it. It is much more better than doing it by yourself all the way, as sometimes you don’t know what should you develop more. after sharing, i got a clearly idea of what should i do and how should i do it. Also, the tutor provided some magazines to cut and do collage, so if we can not draw perfectly, then we can just find the figure that you need and cut it for expressing your ideas. Actually i found this is really helpful, i was thinking about doing in this way before today, but as i don’t have any magazines, so i could not do it in my room. I really like doing work in this way, cause i will be able to indicate my ideas in many different way, not only by drawing.
In the end of today, We need to go to other people’s work, and fill a paper with questions. the questions the photograph showed below.
Also, in the sheet of paper, we need to answer the questions based on the people you have got. I found this part is a bit hard for me, as i am not good at reading but I have to read a lot from the sketchbook, so, at this point, i think i really need to improve my reading skill so that i will not find it is hard for me.
The photos below are the pages i did today for sketchbook.
The image above shows the research development page that i have made, so i put the key point of Naomi Filmer's design which is the body figures, also i did so some research about wood, so i just conclude some main features that wood has.
The photo above shows the idea development page that i have made. As i did not want to only have the 2-D thing within it, so, i put some perfumes sample in the page, because i am doing something which is related with smelling,so i want to the viewer to know my idea clearly and feel it.
Also, as i want to express my idea more clearly, so i made a flip eye on the page which can show the viewers both way of my thoughts.

It was the first time for me to go to CSM Archway campus today, we did the printing workshop there i really enjoyed it.
The theme for today is called “lost letters” as we were given the letters randomly, but we need to have a design for the letter that we were chosen. There were 2 techniques that we can use, one is using lino, which you will be able to work within really detailed pattern, another technique is that you cut your pattern on a piece of paper and then print it by using the paper that you already cut, this technique is more suitable for the big scale, not really detailed work. For me, i used both of the techniques.
Our tutor told us that do not spend so much time on pick up the letter that you are faint to deign, so, i was like: ok, i will take the first letter A. After we picked up the letter, we had a few minutes for brainstorming, images below showed my brainstorming process.
Out of my ideas, i chose idea ‘THE SHARDS’ as my final idea, as there is an A in the word ‘shards’, also the shape of THE SHARDS is similar with the letter A. I decided to adding something around the letter A, such as a arrow top, and girds on the bottom of letter A. so that it will become the shape of the Shards. What i found is difficult for me is that it is hard to decide wether to do a negative cutting on the lino or a positive cutting on the lino, after i tried both of them, i finally decided to do a positive cut on it, as it is quicker and easier and the out come is better than the negative one.
There is another thing which i couldn’t make a decision as well, which is for the second technique of printing, i could not make a decision between make the shape of building in a larger scale around The Shards or make the building to be smaller. After the conversation with my tutor, i decided to cut the shape of small buildings around the letter A, as in this way, it will be able the show that the Shards is the tallest building in London.
The image below shows my final outcome.
In the end of the workshop, all of us put our work on the window, personally, I think this is really good for us, as we are all getting to know others work, and learn something from different works. It is really interesting too see how people work differently although they have the same letter and used the same techniques. The images below are all of ours works from today.
One of my favorite work is the one using letter V to create a walking woman, Personally, i think the way of how she is using the shape as a trousers is really vivid, also, i really like how she is overprinting the shadow of the women on the bottom of the paper, it make the whole work to looks real, detailed and more interesting. I thinks that is something i should learn for my work. There is another work which i like the most, because in that work, he did a fox on the lino, and the fox is really detailed, it is something i couldn’t do, so i think i can learn how to work in a really detailed way from his fox work.
If i could repeat today’s activity, there is two thing i would do better.
- I will add more personality within my work, rather that just work with the shape of the letter.
- I would like to use red colour for my lino printing and use black for the shape of the buildings, in this way, i will be able to highlight my letter more.
Overall, i really enjoyed today’s workshop, and from this point, i think i might consider more about graphic and communication design for my future pathway.

Yesterday our tutor told us to bring 5 found objects, i was wondering what are we going to do with the 5 objectives? Our tutor told us the 5 found objects can be everything you found in your daily life, it can be an chew gum or a stone even. In the morning, our tutor gave us a presentation about artists who is doing subverting with their works. One of the work shocked me the most, as the work is a can of shit. And it worth a million dollars. When i first heard about it, i was like : is this art ? After our tutor told us, none knows is there any shit inside of the can as nobody is trying to open it since it were produced. once someone opened it, it will lose the value of the work.
The photographs below are the notes t took from the lesson.
All of the works in the power pions showed the idea of transformation and subvert, as they are all combined together by more tan 1 thing. After the presentation, our tutor told us that we need to use the 5 objects we brought today and create something new by subverting them. 5 objects that i brought for today are showed below. They are: an orange, a zip, a receipt, a polo and poker.
In the beginning, i was super struggle, as i don't know how to combine the objects i brought for today, after, my first idea came out which is to use receipts from ones whole life and make a corridor with those receipts, but as i did not have so many receipts and i don't have enough space to make it, so i decided to give up this idea. The second idea that i had was to create a game by using poker which only me and the alien can understand. But as i don't have enough time to think about it, so i gave up my second idea as well. After i gave up all my ideas, i decided to stop thinking and trying to find something else to do. Because sometimes this way really help me for thinking ideas. even though i am not doing anything at that moment.
Finally an idea came up to my mind, which is achievable. The idea is that everything in the world can tell a story, is there any certain way to stopping it from telling? so i decided to stick a zip on top of the orange and make the orange empty. the following images show how did i make the zip orange

This week is the week for 3DDA, as one of my most interested area, i was really looking forward to this week. Today was my first day of 3D week, we did the project called WEAR IT which is based on jewelry design. In the morning, our tutor showed us some powerpoint, and i got inspired form how does the designer use the scale of an accessories and then create a totally new version of the same object, this makes me think more about the scale for my design and also how scale can influence a design so much. We've been told that each of us need to make an accessories from our own design in the afternoon, but what we need to do in the morning is we need to draw our designs in a really quick time and must be related with 3 key words SUSPEND BALANCE SURROUND. i came out with the ideas that i am not really satisfied with, because the ideas that i have drew is not what i felt i really liked, but as the limitation of time, i cant think anymore ideas, in the afternoon, i was really struggled with choosing ideas, so i spent such a long time on idea choosing, but as what i have said, i am not really satisfied with any of my ideas, so i was kind of felt like even if i choose it, i wouldn't be happy about the out come, finally when i don't know what to do, i just asked my tutor to help me choose one of my ideas, i told her all my potential ideas, she picked one of the ideas most interested her but because of i did not know how to express my feeling at that time, so i just decided to make the idea of the backbone jewelry, and the out come was a bit unpleasure, i think the reason is that i didn't even feel i am in love with this idea, and then i just made it, i think this is the biggest mistake in any area, if you don't like your idea, how can you convince other people like your idea? So, if i could repeat today’s activity, i would like to spend more time on idea thinking rather than spend lot of time on pick one idea form lots of ideas that i don't like. As i was super unhappy about my final outcome today, so i went to the school shop after school looking for some inspirations. It didn't disappointed me, i found some really interesting materials, so i brought it back to home, and came up with some ideas, personally, i found that i am really good at just find the materials and then do my ideas rather than draw my ideas out and then make it, the reason is that i found my drawings really limited my ideas, as it is not as open as just build my ideas out. So my final jewelry design is based on nails, as i found the jewelry for nails now is only about nail polish and nothing else, so, i decided to design a jewelry which is only work for the nails and it can move when your finger is moving. I would like to take the photo of it under a projector, as the material that i chose will have the colorful reflection under the light, but i did not find a projector which i can use at that day, so i just took photographs with a white background but with the moving finger. I am really happy about my outcome, because it is special as there is no one doing something with their nails in my class and it looks really good on the hand as well. the image below showed my final outcome for today.

The project for today is called USE IT, the name of the project really attract me as i was thinking about how can i use it? use what? So I read the project brief and getting to understand the project. It is about product design! so how do we using the product in our daily life and how can designers make a better product to make life to be more convenient and comfortable? So the first thing to do for today after the presentation is draw people siting on somewhere and observe how do they sit and why do they sit like this also where do they sit in. We have been told to sketch different people who is siting in different places within 30 minutes. I really enjoyed this task, as we are getting to observe people in the place surround me and the position which everyone is doing everyday. Personally, i think this is the most important process for product design, because observing something in our daily life and improve it is the key thing for a product designer, as there are many details in one motion that people wouldn’t notice in their daily life. I remember the example our tutor told us on the lesson, which is a designer wen on a interview and ask people how do they open a super bag for coffee? The people was answering like: i just open it like what everyone else is doing. But when the designer is observing the people opening a super bag, they were actually shaking it before they open the bag, lots of people just ignore this detail and think they just open the super bag straightly without doing any other thing. I think this is a very interesting thing about product design, as you need to observing people surround you and find something which other people won’t even notice in their life and try to improve a product by noticing some small details in our daily life. After the sketch, we started to draw our design out, i came up with some ideas, and finally i chose to make one which is based on materials for the chair. Also, what i have noticed is that people always find somewhere soft to sit, but normally somewhere soft doesn’t suit for a formal place, for example, pillow doesn't suit for a office, so i decided to design something with a formal look but also soft. I designed the chair below, the chair can be bended. The first image showed when the chair is not bended, the second image showed when the chair is bended.

Today is the first day for fashion and textiles week, we started with drawing structures of buildings outside, we did the exercise for 90 minutes, during the 90 minutes, I was looking for buildings which has special structures and bright colours, but after we came back to the studio, I found I did too much on the colours, and did not focus on the structure that much, as other people all got different structures on their book, but I only have the structures in colours, not in lines, but anyway, it did not influence my next step too much. I think I really need to improving my understanding skills as I always misunderstood the task which our tutor told us. After the sketch for the structures, we need to do a series of different shapes and develop your shapes by changing the way you draw and the way you combine your shape together, I really enjoyed this process, because we also need to do our own shape on others sketchbook, it was really fun cause when you are drawing on others sketchbook you actually do not need to think too much about your drawings, and the outcome for your drawing is really interesting as well, from this exercise I realized the importance of getting lose for you drawing and relax when you are drawing, the outcome is always good when you are relaxing. Another my favorite activity for today was to put all the sketchbook in your group together and then draw your pattern across these sketchbooks by using different materials, and draw it with in different sizes. So everyone in the group can be involved with it and the outcomes are really pleasure as well. I really like the task which everyone in the group can be involved and each of us has different styles and to combine different styles together is really interesting and make the work to be more diversity.
In the afternoon, we started to cut out our shapes out on a big piece of paper and then put the shapes on the model. To be honest, I did not really get the concept of this project, as the tutor told us do not put the shapes on the model like a cloths, then why we are doing this on a body not on the wall? So i did not enjoyed today so much, as i did not got the concept from today, and i think what i can improve for today is that try to understand the meaning of each exercise and the purpose as well, do not just do something cause i want to, but do something which can improve my work or develop my work.
The video below shows the final thing i made for today.
shapes on body

Today we did a library task with in group, In our group, as we have chosen wood as material, and Naomi Filmer as our artist, also wear as the process. So, i did the research about the jewelries and research about the wood as well.
For the jewelry part, i did the research about the hard wear jewelry, and also the jewelry which only use metals. But the interesting thing is that, it does not only use one shape, but use shapes like tube stick and a slice of metals as well, in this point, it really inspires me about we can explore more about one thing, rather than explore lots of stuff but not focus on a specific thing. Here are some examples of the metal jewelrise.
Chairs
Also, I have found some works which are related with the wood, i have browsed the book called 100 chairs, most of the chairs are made by wood. What i am really interested with furnitures is that it is something to make you feel comfy and make you to enjoy your time at home. It is something can give you sense of belonging, as i am an international student, so the sense of belonging is really important for me, and it is something i always want, but couldn’t get as i always move to different places. So, at this point, I am thinking about to make something which can give you the sense of belonging easily, it can be a wearing installation, furnitures, and a space design etc..
The photographs below are some chairs inspired me.

It was such an intense day today, in the morning, i thought we don’t have any lesson for the morning, but when i got up, my friend texted me that i have school this morning, but actually i am late, so i ran all the way to school. After i arrived, the tutor set us a task which is to draw 30 ideas in 30 minutes by using the research we did for last week, i really enjoyed this task, cause it make me to do brain storming and it is such a good way to wake me up. Another reason of why i really enjoy this task is because of for each idea, we only have a minute to think about, so actually, i don’t need to consider a lot for the idea, the only thing i need to do is come up with an idea and indicate it by roughly draw it out. The photographs below are the drawings i did on my sketch book.
Most of my ideas are based on jewelries, as we got Naomi Filmer as our artist, she is a jewelry designer, but most her jewelries have been tagged with “unwearable jewelry”, so most of my ideas are the jewelries which can make you fell pain, or uncomfortable. After the 30 ideas in 30 minutes section, we need to talk with your partner and choose 3 of them, which have to be the ideas that you most satisfied with. For me, i wanted to choose one of my idea called: wearable perfect triangle, but actually no one has ever seen a perfect triangle, in this idea i just want to express the imperfection of human being and remind myself about it. Still, i feel the concept for this idea is not strong enough, so i went to find the tutor after school, the tutor helped me to choose my idea among 30 drawings of my ideas, then he found there are lots of drawings which are specifically indicate one area on the face — eyes. So he suggested me to do something work with eyes together, cause eyes are such an important part on the body, and it can express your emotion, and show your mood. So based on the suggestion my tutor gave me. i decided to develop my idea into eyes.

This week is graphic commutation week and today we did a taster class of fashion communication, most people would say that fashion communication is only about fashion photography and fashion advertising, but actually fashion communication has a wide rang of corse that you can do,For example, it included film, photography and digital media and etc..
Every of us need to do a one day project called “Poetic Cardboard”. We were told that we need to work in a group of 3 or 4 people, and each group need to take out 2 words randomly from 2 groups of words, one is material, and another one is concept.
There were 4 people in our group, we got “politics" and “text" as 2 words.
As a group we did a brainstorming together, i found doing it is really helpful for developing our ideas, as each of us has totally differently backgrounds and we also can exchange our ideas through this section. In the end of brainstorming, we decided to use feminism as our topic, go and interview different women on the street, ask them about 3 questions which are:
- What is your name?
- How old are you?
- What do you do for living/ what is your job?
We were trying to use the texts that they are talking to connect with TEXT, But personally , i don’t think from this point this project is linked with the topic “politics” a lot, it is more suitable with the topic “society”. If i have another chance to do this project, I would do more research about AI Wei Wei, as he is an artist from China and his works are all linked with the topic politics. I will do some large scale of installation work very quickly, which everyone who pass by it will be able to involved. For example, cut out some words which is related with politics and put it one the floor, and everyone can walk through it and get their footprint on top of politics words. But our group decided to focus on the topic feminism. We went to King’s Cross station, and find people in different ages, different countries to ask them about the three questions, and then ask them to write down their occupation on A3 paper, then let them hold the paper and take a photo with them. The images below shows the photos that we have took.
Also, our tutor gave some artists which are examples for fashion communication. The image below are the notes i have took from today.
From the group project, I found it is really helpful to working within group, but also as we are in a group, it is really hard to make a work which is able to show all of ours ideas.
Today, what I learnt from fashion communication is that we all ned to find a way to communicate with others, it can be everything that you can use, including photography, video, installation and etc.. I have learnt how to collaborating with others to develop an idea together.
24/09/2015
Today is the last day of graphic and communication week, we did a type workshop with tutor Paul Finn. In the morning every of us got a sheet of A4 paper, and we were asked to cut the A4 paper into 16 squares. When i was cutting the paper i was wondering what can we do with the 16 little squares? After we finished cutting, the tutor told us that we need to use those paper and create different styles for random letters such as: L A G J B O I N W etc..
For me, i decided to try different ways of making letters. I tried waving, cutting, folding and rubbing, even for one technique, there are several ways of doing them. I really enjoyed the process of this workshop because it made me to thinking in different ways, for one letter, i can not only use the shape of it, but also the shadow of the letter. In another way, i can always working with angles, the image below are the example of the importance of angles in typography which our tutor showed us in the morning.
After every of us finished design our 16 letters, the tutor told us to place our letters on the cover of the sketchbook and stand up look around others work. I found this is really helpful to me, as we are all sharing our work and I can see there are so many different ways of doing one letter, also i can get inspiration from everyone, so i really like this section as i can get inspired. After looking around some of us can say something about your favorite design and tell us why. From this section every of us has different point of view and it is really interesting to see how did other people think about the same work but from different point. The image below showed some of the designs which i really like.
The reason of why i like this design is because of in this design, she made the letter only can be seen in a certain angle, and it is really unique to make the letter looks like this.
The image below shows some of my designs, as you can see, i used some different techniques, our tutor told us to choose one of my design and develop it into a specific word which can show the content of the front that you designed, for me it is really hard as i don’t know which design should i choose, and i don’t know which one is the best one.
As i really struggled with choosing a front, i asked my tutor which one should i keep. The tutor told me that the one with block is really interesting, but for me i think the one with rubbing the paper is easier to make, so finally, i decided to do both of them. For the blocks one, i decided to name it as ON AND OFF as it got different blocks face to different sides. and for the rubbing paper one, i decided to call it as WRINKLE as i think wrinkle is an really vivid word to describe this work.
The image above shows my another work called ON AND OFF, but because of the letters are all really 3D so on the image it could not show the details of this work. But still i am happy about this outcome.
At this point, from what i can tell, i felt bit not really into graphic and communication design so much though.

Human being, Being human
In the morning, our tutor showed us a few powerpoint which included lots of Fine Art artists, i took notes during the presentation, the sentences below are what i think is important from the powerpoint and what makes me thinking about it.
- The term of being human is different.
- We are the only animals that maintain very large numbers via will power alone.
- Art is a special activity because art juggles between the objective and subjective mode all the time.
- Art is everything we do that need to be done.
After i wrote down those sentences in my notebook, i started to thinking about why the term of being human is different ? Is it because of we can use tools? We have more emotions than other animals? Or because of we can cook? Find things that we enjoy? Or we are the only animal in the world brush their teeth every day?Are we human because we oftentimes do not practice what we preach? Are we human because we have cheated on our spouses? The answer of the question is I DON’T KNOW. But do human know how to answer this question right away? I am pretty sure that there are different meanings for different people, and i believe that there are different meanings for different cultures. The faith we believe in are different, then how can we expect there is a standard answer for this question that we have been thinking about along the time? I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHO I AM. I CAN BE ANYONE, THEN WHO IS ANYONE?
We can subvert things, the term of subverting is really interesting, how to combine things together and then give them a new definition. Everything in the world is made by more than 2 things combined together, even atoms. and by combining them, we subvert. Our tutor introduced some artists in the presentation to us which will be included in my research later on.
In the afternoon, we were asked to do a task which is a group work, each group need to have a tramp for their group, and ask them question which are: where are you from, what do you do for your tribe.
In our group, we have Chinese and Japanese, so in the beginning we were thinking about the question in a shallow level, as we want to do something about Asia in our group, but in my point of view, each person are from different places even though they are form the same country, we are from the place we think we are belonging to. It can be the garden you used to stay when you were a child, or it can be the place you have only been once, but you have great passion for that place. So after we developed the question ‘where are you from’ in a deeper meaning. I wrote down NOWHERE as my place. And people in our group really like the idea of NOWHERE so we decided to use NOWHERE as the place for our tribe. The reason of i wrote down NOWHERE on the paper is because of i think human is from nowhere, and each individual people can define nowhere as different places. I wonder that because of we are from nowhere, so we are always trying to find a place we belonging to, this is the reason of why we have religions on the earth. We are always trying to find a thing we can trust, finding a place where we called it home. Finding a people that can make you feel loved. All of that is because of we need to find the sense of belonging, cause we are all from nowhere, so we need to find a place that we are belonging to. That is why i think i am from nowhere.
I really like today’s activities. as it abstract but symbolized. I enjoyed everything we did for today and i want to explore more about fine art, more about myself.
The images above are our group work, we decided to focus on the unexpected things in the room as our final out come, as the unexpected things are from nowhere and none knows where are they from. Also, we did some automatic drawings as we are going to draw our feelings out and the feeling of where are we from.

We did the development work for our final piece yesterday. And today is the day for the presentation. For my work, as it is based on the zip on everything, so i made another piece which is a zip on a banana and the one with zip on a mask. The reason of why i used another fruit is because of i found the orange that i have made another day is decaying, and then i just realized that if i put secrets inside of the orange while it is decaying, so the secrets are decaying with the fruit as well. It makes me think about our body is decaying by the time being, but our soul is developing all the time while we are growing up. so this work reminds me about how we are decaying just like an orange does. So, in my opinion, the secrets in the orange is just like us, human being.
For this work, i have different concepts, as one is make something and find a way for it to stop telling stories, another one is about decaying in our body. So it is really hard for me to decide which meaning should i take, but at the same time, I was thinking about maybe i should take both of them, and they do not clash with each other.
At the same time, i developed another idea with mask and notebook, the reason of why i chose mask as one of the object is because of mask is a thing which can cover your mouth and stop you from talking, i have seen a research in Japan which shows the reason of people wearing mask, and one of the main reason is that because of people do not want to with other people, so wearing mask is a special way to stop oneself from talking, so, i sticked a zip on the mask to show this appearance.I found the mask with zip can be used in another way which is use it as a eye mask, and you can open the sip when you want to see from outside and it also looks like someone is snooping behind the eye mask which is linked with what i am going to say next. Also, the reason of why i made a zip in a notebook is because of i was imagine the notebook as a dairy. By putting a zip on the notebook is able to show that it is not welcome for anyone who want to come and open the zip, and snooping from the dairy. The images below shows the banana, notebook and mask with zip.

The project for today is called ‘BUILD IT’, the name of the project can tell what are we going to do for today, as we need to do the project based on building things, so it is architecture workshop, which is the one i have been looking forward for a long time. In the morning, the tutor did a presentation to us it is mainly about the architecture in different uses and the differences between architecture and sculptures. In my opinion, architecture can be sculptures, but sculptures can not be architectures. During the presentation, the tutor asked us some questions, I tried to answer a few of them, as i feel if i like this area, then i should definitely involved within it, i was afraid i am wrong for the answers in the beginning and then i just realized that i have to have a try then i will be able to know wether or not it is wrong. After i answered the questions, i was kind of feel confidence about it. I think that is one of the most important thing i learnt from today. After the presentation, we started to build our models by using bamboo sticks, we were separated into groups and each group have a sheet of paper which told you the most stable geometric shapes. During we were making those shapes, i was thinking, why every of the building must be stable? What if the shoe of it can be changed? So i told my group about the changing shape idea, and we decided to make our model to be movable, and the shape can change all the time, the idea of this is because of i was thinking if the shape of the building is changing, the layout inside of the building must be changeable as well, so there will be lots of different possibilities in this building although it is using the same material. So i was considering more about the potential possibilities behind the building, i am considered it is not only a building anymore, but a place where has lots of possibilities within it. The video below showed the final outcome form our group.

After we built our structure, we started to warp the structure with tissue paper, but we did some surfaces for our structure it doesn't look nice as before, so we decided to stop wrapping it. Personally i think the reason of why it doesn't look good is because of there are so may big surfaces on our work and we couldn't cover it with one tissue paper as it is too small for it, so we have to use lots of sheets to cover it up, and it started looking weird. As the shape of our structure can be changing all the time, so the perfect thing to cover it is the elastic band, as it is a bendable material. Also, we were thinking about if we couldn't change the cover, can we change the lighting inside of it? So we did the experiment with move the light around the structure and then have different effects in the building, the video below shows the moving light. In my opinion, the main idea behind our work is based on changing. as the light is changing and the structure is changing as well.

Today is the day for fashion illustration. We started the day by drawing models by using different hands, we were asked only to draw the shapes of the model, we should not draw the details on our drawing, but for me, I found this is really difficult, as I always want to draw the details on the figure and try to complete it, I can not keep the line to be simple, I always draw back to the line again and again, I know I should not draw in this way, I tried to overcome it by only focusing on the outline for the model, so for the second drawing, which need to be done by using left hand, this time I was only focusing on the outline of the shape and I found the outcome looks much more better as the line become more simple and because I took out all the details out so the shape is more simple as well. After the practice for right and left hand drawing, we started to sit on the floor together and use a pencil to draw on our sketchbook but for this practice, the main purpose is to draw different moods out on the sketchbook, as when people have different mood, the mark they make on the paper will be changed as well, so the tutor asked us to feel different moods and then make the marks on the paper, so, on my sketchbook, there are so many different marks, some of them are strong, some of them are pale, and there are thick and thin lines on it, I found this practice is really interesting, because I never tried to express myself by this way also the marks I have made on the paper are totally different when I having different moods. So for the next practice, I applied this technique into my drawing the out come was really interesting as it is unique also when I look back into this drawing I can feel the feeling I had at that time and the mood I had when I drew it. After this practice, we turned to draw the textures for the cloths, I started to think about how should I draw the texture if it is a leather? Should it be smooth or should I draw the texture of the leather on my drawing? Finally, I decided to make it to be in a smooth look, as when I touch the leather I can feel it is really smooth. What I learnt from this practice is that to express the texture of the cloth by using different materials and different marks which will make the illustration to be more vivid and interesting. In the afternoon, we were told to make frottage by using different colours and materials on a piece of A2 paper, in the beginning, I was wondering why do we need to do the frottage? And I got the answer soon. The reason of it is because we can include these marks into our drawing and make collages by using them.
However, I really enjoyed today’s activity because I learnt lots of different skills on drawing, how to make your work to be special just by using some simple techniques.

We did textiles for today, but we started with bringing 5 objects which are related to yourself. I was wondering why do we need to bring 5 of our objects? After I got the answer for my question. We were separated into groups and put the objects that we brought together and the tutor told us to put our objects into some certain orders, it can be in the order of colour it also can be in the order of shapes, we need to explore different possibilities with the objects that we brought. In our group, we put the objects into colour order and also put the objects together which are necessity in our life. After that, we need to draw line drawings on the sketchbook, I found line drawings are always difficult for me, as I always want to complete my drawing, also another point of why it is difficult for me is because of I was sitting on a particular angle, so I also need to consider about the perspective for my drawing, but I could not control the ratio of the objects, so the outcome of my drawing is a little bit weird. The section I liked the most from today was the sculpture, because we need to tie our objects into particular order by using yarn. As we got a hanger in our group, so we hanged everything on the hanger by using yarn. The image below shows our sculpture work.
Also, we did the drawing for our sculpture as well, I really enjoyed this part, we need to draw when ours eyes are closed, I really like my drawing from this practice because my drawing is kind of abstract but you can still distinguish this drawing is from the sculpture. We did a few drawings after the blind drawing by using different techniques. There is another one which I really enjoyed is only draw a certain part of the sculpture and then colour it into colour block. The reason of why I really like it is because of when I only draw a certain part of the sculpture, I don’t need to tink about the whole sculpture’s ratio, and I can draw it into the size I like, I chose to use really bright colour for my colour block, because I want to express the feeling when I was drawing it and how I think the colour of the object supposed to be.
We then did a collage on acetate which need to be inspired by the drawings I did before. I sewed on the acetate to indicate the yarn in the sculpture then I put down the clear colour blocks which were inspired from my last drawing. So the out come is the image below. The reason of why we need to make this collage is because what we need to put it on the projector and project it on a white shirt, then make it into our own pattern, I really like this process because each of us got a chance to design our pattern on the cloth which is developed from only 5 objects that we brought today, I think it really shows our process and every of the process has distribution for the final outcome.
